"Bunny Ebola" spreading in US

Some veterinarians refer to rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus type 2, which is spreading through wild and domestic rabbits in the US, as "bunny Ebola" because the toll it takes on rabbits is as devastating as the toll Ebola virus takes on humans. The virus is not related to Ebola and does not affect humans, but it is carried easily on shoes and clothing; affects rabbits, hares and pikas; and destroys hepatic cells, causes lesions on the heart and lungs, and causes internal bleeding and death.
