Swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus has the potential to spill over from pigs to humans, according to a study in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In laboratory studies, SADS-CoV DNA replicated in monkey and cat cells, as well as in human lung and nasal passage cells, and the researchers are seeking partners to study potential vaccines for swine that could prevent a spillover event.
