Adjuvant induces long-term immunity against HIV in monkeys

An experimental vaccine adjuvant induced a sustained antibody response and conferred immunity against HIV that lasted longer than a year in rhesus monkeys in a study at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center and the Emory Vaccine Center. A synthetic small molecule in the adjuvant targets the TLR 7/8 receptor and induced production of vaccine-specific, long-lived bone marrow plasma cells, researchers reported in Science Immunology.
