It took Shanghai Junshi Biosciences months to find enough monkeys to test an experimental COVID-19 antibody for partner Eli Lilly and Co., Junshi Chief Operating Officer Feng Hui says, and a new report from the European Animal Research Association says the shortage of purpose-bred macaque monkeys for COVID-19 research is getting worse. China suspended research monkey exports to prevent spread of the virus, but monkeys "play a critical role in the development of vaccines, such as those for COVID-19, and urgent international co-operation is needed to lift the ban," EARA Executive Director Kirk Leech said in a statement.
