PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, who is stepping down this fall, has said the low number of women CEOs is because workplace norms and culture make it hard to create a pipeline of midlevel women executives to promote. "How are you going to attract women to the workforce, where we need them, but allow them to balance having a family and taking care of aging parents ... and still allow them to contribute productively to the workforce?" she said this year.
