Wineries lighten bottles to reduce carbon footprint

The energy-intensive process of wine production is sparking some wineries to mitigate their environmental impact by using lighter bottles. Jackson Family Wines began looking for methods of reducing its carbon footprint in 2008, resulting in such measures as decreasing bottle weight, resulting in the ability "to reduce our overall emissions by 4%," Senior Vice President for Corporate and Social Responsibility Katie Jackson said.
