The recycling rate of glass in the US is 33%, GPI reports, and it will take a multipronged approach to bring that number higher. "Recycled glass is nearly always part of the recipe for making new glass," says GPI's Joseph Cattaneo, and when available due to better recycling programs, it can help save energy costs, reduce the need for other raw materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the manufacturing process.
