Type 2 diabetes patients following a Mediterranean eating plan with extra virgin olive oil had a reduced hazard ratio of initiating a first glucose-lowering medication and those following a Mediterranean plan plus nuts had a 0.87 reduced hazard ratio, compared with those on a low-fat eating plan, according to a study published in Diabetes Care. The researchers examined data from the trial involving 3,230 participants.
