Calls for action mount as Spain's olive oil woes continue

Deoleo has released a study suggesting that international competition and price stagnation could lead to 240,000 small Spanish olive farms vanishing in the next decade, and separately called for a new association to promote practices and regulation that improve both profitability and the quality of Spain's product. Meanwhile, a new government report is predicting another tough year for Andalusia's olive producers, and protesters gathered in the city of Jaén demanding measures that would help to raise the price of olive oil.
