Why it matters: This isn't exactly a shocking bit of news, but it's interesting to see something we all feel backed up by scientific data. If you can wrap your arms around the data, you'll read how hugs can reduce feelings of pain, ease depression and reduce anxiety. Experts also found that touches from inanimate objects like weighted blankets, body pillows or robots can help in terms of physical health, but they aren't as effective at improving mental health.

Why it matters: "Patience is a virtue" ... or so the saying goes. Different people possess different levels of patience, but why people are being patient can also vary. This article explores the deeper meaning of patience and why it is important to practice patience with a goal in mind. The article also explains why there are some instances when it is OK to be impatient.

Why it matters: Every once in a while, you hear about a big-time performer doing a show in a small venue or setting (usually for big-time money). In fact, Rihanna made headlines recently for doing one such gig in India. Well, with Bed Bath & Beyond closing its doors at various locations, ambitious event promoters have spotted an opportunity. Turn the stores into live-event venues.

Why it matters: I would be willing to bet that most WYWWers face loads of uncertainty in their daily lives. Decisions need to be made about matters big and small, but sometimes the choice is unclear. Rather than force a decision, try leaning into the ambiguity of "I don't know." Admitting you don't know what to do can be a crucial first step in waking up your imagination so you can come up with a plan.

For Your Listening Pleasure
Why it matters: If you noticed a lot of people walking around this morning looking a little tired, they were probably Swifties. Taylor Swift released her new album at midnight Eastern time last night and since your humble editor resides on the West Coast, my family figured we'd listen at 9pm our time and be done by 10:30pm or so. Alas, that was not to be the case. At 2am ET, Miss Americana made the surprise announcement that a second part of the album was being released immediately. So at 11pm my time, another hour or so of Swift's music became available. I was already in bed, but my daughter listened through the night.

Economic hit: Every year, there is a story about the toll the NFL's Super Bowl takes on the economy by being played on a Sunday. That's because productivity takes a hit across the economy the following morning. Well, Swift's midnight album releases might soon approach Super Bowl status. You've heard how Swift's tour is a huge economic driver in the cities she visits. Conversely, the midnight album drops might be having a negative impact on economic activity (and academic performance!) the following day.

Swift should just move her album releases to Friday or Saturday nights. Local radio stations could host listening parties (perhaps at an old Bed Bath & Beyond?!?!) or maybe Swift could even monetize it by doing another deal with AMC Theaters. This way, Swifties could immerse themselves in TayTay's music and not have to suffer any consequences the next day at work ... or in geometry class.

For Your Dining Pleasure
Why it matters: Chefs far and wide are taking liberties and adding peculiar new ingredients to what they insist on labeling Caesar salad. I mean ... Pigs ears? Tequila? Are you serious?

This article calls for chefs to put a stop to all the Caesar salad madness. At the very least, the article also shares the legendary story about the birth of the Caesar salad -- which, interestingly enough, occurred in a place where tequila is also very popular.

Here and There
Why it matters: Pale purple dots of bacteria could be a better indicator of life in space than the green that denotes life on Earth. Purple bacteria's chlorophyll absorbs invisible infrared light, capturing energy in low sunlight or from different wavelengths of light, such as the infrared radiation emitted by cool red dwarf stars, the most common stars in our galaxy.

This headline would be sooooo much funnier if the story was about Uranus.

Why it matters: Breaking news! This just in: A new study 'revealed' cannabis use causes people to spend more money on snacks and drives an uptick in business for food delivery services from DoorDash, Uber Eats and Little Caesars.

WYWW Playlist
I'm still catching up on all 31 songs Taylor Swift added to her catalog. I will give it a full listen over the weekend, but so far I am digging "So High School" quite a bit. "thanK you aIMee" is pretty good, too.

There is a WYWW playlist on Spotify to keep track of all the songs listed in this space. Enjoy!

I head up to this spot whenever I need to do some thinking. I guess you could say this spot is where I go when "I don't know."

Who Said It?

I didn't get there by wishing for it or hoping for it or dreaming about it. ... I got there by working for it.
