Obese psoriatic arthritis patients who followed a short-term restrictive diet lost a median 41.2 pounds, and at six months the number who achieved minimal disease activity increased from 29.3% to 53.7%, according to a study in Arthritis Research & Therapy. "We recommend that weight loss treatment should be considered as complementary to pharmacological treatment in patients with PsA and obesity, since weight loss may improve disease activity, effects of drug treatment, and cardiovascular risk profile," researchers said.
