Wyo. legislature may toll I-80
Lawmakers in Wyoming will consider in the 2020 legislative session whether to toll Interstate 80. While some legislators are encouraging the state to look elsewhere, Sen. Michael Von Flatern, R-24th district, says the issue has already been studied and the legislature must act to pay for infrastructure needs.

Orange County's toll roads pay off
Christina Shea, chairman of the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency, writes that Orange County, Calif.'s use of tolls has paid dividends, both financially and in keeping congestion down. The TCA has reduced long-term debt obligations through tolling revenues as well, writes Shea.

Mozambique to lease road sections to private operators
Mozambique's National Roads Administration will lease five sections of major roads totaling 433 miles to private operators for contracts of 30 years. Road maintenance will be funded through tolls.

State policy puts South Padre Island causeway on hold
Texas Gov. Greg Abbot called a halt to new toll projects earlier this year, leading to a new delay to the second causeway project on South Padre Island. The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority says the project may not move forward.

Smart cities increasingly have smart traffic
Adaptive traffic control and traffic analytics technologies are finding homes in smart cities, and the sharing of traffic data among agencies is rising. Navigant Research predicts that the market for such systems, which improve safety and decrease greenhouse gas emissions, will increase from more than $1.1 billion this year to almost $3.8 billion by 2028.

Three-quarters of India's tolling now cashless
The National Highways Authority of India is reporting transition of 75% of its tolls to electronic tolling plazas, as it moves towards its Dec. 1 deadline of complete electronic tolling.

Malaysia expands RFiD tolling
Malaysian drivers soon will have the option of using Plus RFiD, a tagging system tied directly to users' credit and debit accounts. The new system is an option for those vehicles not already equipped with the Touch 'n Go RFID sticker.

APG commits $42M to Texas' North Tarrant Expressway
APG, a Netherlands-based pension fund investor, is committing $42.3 million to fund the extension of the North Tarrant Expressway toll road in Texas. The total project cost will be $662 million and represents 7.2 miles added to the Expressway.
