Career-Technical Education

Dear readers,

SmartBrief Education publisher Joe Riddle recently announced our editorial focus on Path to Workforce —  our vision of college and career readiness, encompassing K-12, adult learners, career changers, non-traditional students and those who forgo a traditional four-year college experience.

Path to Workforce encompasses career and college news, but also the rise of vocational schools, skilled trades, the revival of apprenticeships, project-based learning and the maker movement, both in schools and in the workplace.

We have assembled a team of editors who will shine a light on the creative ways stakeholders at all levels are taking up the challenge of equipping students to embrace and lead their own learning and how industry and education institutions are working together to prepare students for workforce needs and the modern economy.

Sam Taute

Sam Taute is the editor of SmartBrief on Workforce, a daily newsletter targeted at corporate learning and human resources professionals.

“Many employers have the resources and the will to provide well-paying jobs, but they also lack corporate infrastructures for sustaining workforce development programs. These infrastructures can only become more abundant once the weak ties between employers and educational institution become strong ties, allowing for a vibrant workforce ecosystem to emerge.”

Katharine Haber

Katharine Haber edits a number of SmartBrief e-newsletters, covering topics in K-12 and higher education in the U.S. and internationally.

“Now more than ever, in the wake of the Great Recession, many traditional and nontraditional students are seeking affordable training and education that is directly applicable to the demands of a changing workforce. Institutions of higher education – from small community colleges to prestigious four-year schools – are working to create and offer valuable programs that prepare and equip individuals with the skills they need and want to succeed in the careers of the 21st century.”

Melissa Greenwood

Melissa Greenwood is SmartBrief’s senior education editor, with responsibility for the content in a variety of SmartBrief’s education e-news briefs. She also manages content for SmartBlog on Education and related social media channels.

“Educators have the power to open doors and pave paths for students so they can realize their unique learning journeys. We all faced decisions about what to do after high school, and now schools nationwide are doing innovative things to help ensure such decision are informed and aligned to students’ passions and goals.”

Our team is excited about what’s taking place in education and in the modern workforce. Stay tuned later this month for a look at the state of Path to Workforce in 2015, including expert insights and reader feedback.
