For nearly two decades, Jeremy Chase has prioritized ESTO on his calendar. As tourism and marketing administrator for Visit Idaho, he says the conference offers candid peer conversations, valuable industry relationships and practical insights that help destination marketers stay ahead of change. He shares why he keeps returning—and why first-time attendees should consider joining.
What’s the one thing you can learn at ESTO that you simply can’t get anywhere else?
The combination of candid peer-to-peer learning and in-person relationship building with destination marketing professionals from across the industry.

Tell me about a relationship you built at ESTO that changed how you do your job.
I connected with Todd Davidson at my first ESTO in 2005. At every ESTO since, I’ve made it a point to catch up with him. I’ve learned something new from every conversation, and those insights have helped me grow in my role at Visit Idaho.
How is the ESTO community different from other professional networks you’re part of?
From a state DMO perspective, it’s invaluable to connect with counterparts navigating many of the same opportunities and challenges. There’s a level of openness and willingness to share that makes ESTO unique.
Can you point to a specific campaign or initiative that was born from an ESTO session or conversation?
ESTO’s programming on advocacy and stakeholder outreach helped inspire the launch of “The Power of Idaho Tourism,” our industry website and statewide outreach initiative.
In an industry that’s changing this fast, what role does ESTO play in keeping you competitive?
ESTO helps me stay a step ahead instead of feeling two steps behind and headed in the wrong direction.
What would you say to a destination marketer who’s on the fence about attending for the first time?
There’s nothing but upside for those motivated to learn and grow. Whether it’s counterparts, competitors or industry partners, attendees leave with new ideas, new relationships and a network of colleagues that lasts well beyond the conference.
