Immigrant construction personnel who work for small contractors tend to receive substandard safety training when compared with those who work for larger contractors, according to a recent study from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and American Society of Safety Engineers. The researchers found that just 5.9% of immigrant workers for small construction companies received 11 or more hours of initial safety training, but that bridging language barriers and providing training materials could improve safety.

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority raised $291 million from a sale of revenue bonds. The money will be used to fund ongoing construction projects at San Diego International Airport, in international arrivals and the Terminal 2 parking facility.

The Risk & Insurance Management Society says it plans to start publishing industry standards in early 2012 to establish quality practices globally after getting the green light from the American National Standards Institute. RIMS says it will look, for example, at standards for risk managers' handling of fee disclosures and compensation for brokers.

A well-off British investor who claims he lost $13 million from investing in American International Group Life premier bonds has paid for a billboard campaign in London that accuses Coutts & Company, a private banking unit of Royal Bank of Scotland, of giving him bad advice about the safety of the investment and failing to notify him of AIG's financial issues. Coutts through a spokeswoman said the charges by Keith Mills were false and had no comment on the ad campaign.
