After being diagnosed with cancer herself, oncology nurse Lindsay Norris wrote an open letter to all the patients and families she had cared for to say she was sorry for everything she didn't understand about what they were going through. The letter reminds not just fellow nurses but all caregivers of the importance of being a better listener and handling "patient and family/care partner fragility with the utmost respect, humility, and empathy -- in other words, to strive to be our best selves in the midst of suffering," write Jennifer Wenzel and Cynda Rushton of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.
