While 33% of college students overall who began pursuing a bachelor's degree in 2011-12 changed majors, 52% of students who originally studied math ended up majoring in something else, according to data from the Education Department's National Center for Education Statistics. Experts say that given the high employer demand for students with math degrees, institutions must do more to encourage students to stay in their major.
