The United Arab Emirates' Department of Energy has issued an electricity generation license for the first of four reactors at the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi.

Construction has started on two 700-megawatt reactors in India at the Gorakhpur Haryana nuclear power project. Commissioning is scheduled for 2020 to 2021, but experts say that timeline may not be met.

Unit 1 of the United Arab Emirates' Barakah nuclear power plant is in the commissioning and testing phase, with startup scheduled for this year. The plant's three other reactors should be online by 2020.

All condensers have been installed at Emirates Nuclear Energy's Barakah Unit 4 in the United Arab Emirates. The reactor is 38% complete following the installation of the final condenser, which was manufactured in South Korea.

The commissioning of the first reactor at the United Arab Emirates' Barakah nuclear plant will be assisted by workers from Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, according to a contract KHNP signed with Emirates Nuclear Energy on Wednesday. Over 50 KHNP employees will be sent to the Barakah plant, where the first reactor being constructed is nearly 90% complete.
