Extending the full wind-energy production tax credit through 2050 would result in a near-term drop-off in new additions but would ultimately bring 40% more new installed wind capacity online by 2050 compared to if the credits are ended, according to the Energy Information Administration. The report said that without the PTC, the nation's total installed wind capacity would likely increase to 55% above 2017 levels by 2050.
