Karl Lagerfeld, the prolific designer who reinvented Chanel after taking over as creative director in 1983 and also developed his own fashion brand, has died at age 85. "Thanks to his creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition, Karl Lagerfeld was ahead of his time, which widely contributed to the House of Chanel's success throughout the world," Chanel CEO Alain Wertheimer said.
