Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke, a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, was a member of 1980s hacking group Cult of the Dead Cow, the oldest hacking group in the US, in high school. O'Rourke ended his ties with the group, which coined the term hacktivism -- hacking for the greater good, a practice continued by today's Anonymous -- after he enrolled in Columbia University.
