The surge in demand for off-premises dining during the pandemic has spurred quickserve chains including Burger King, Del Taco and A&W to create formats that downsize or omit dining rooms and beef up drive-thrus. Drive-thrus were growing in popularity even before the coronavirus, and some chains including McDonald's and Chick-fil-A have been investing in high-tech features.

Chick-fil-A has topped the list of America's favorite quickserve restaurants for the fourth consecutive year, according to the American Customer Service Index. A collection of smaller brands came in second, followed by Panera Bread in third place, and Arby's, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Papa John's and Pizza Hut tied for fourth place in the survey of 23,000 consumers.

Starbucks and McDonald's were the only restaurant brands to land on Forbes' list of most-admired companies. In a separate ranking by Technomic based on consumer data, In-N-Out Burger ranked highest and Ruth's Chris Steak House, Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers and Pappasito's Cantina rounded out the top five.

Chick-fil-A once again topped the American Customer Satisfaction Index's quickserve ranking, which rates chains on a host of factors including speed, order accuracy and food quality. Panera Bread, Papa John's, Pizza Hut and Subway rounded out the top five.

Burger King took the top spot among quickserve burger concepts on this year's American Customer Satisfaction Index, unseating Wendy's, which fell to a close second after holding the title for 20 years. Chick-fil-A was named the favorite overall quickserve chain, followed by Panera Bread and Papa John's.
