Walmart has remodeled the beauty departments at all 4,700 of its US stores over the past three years with a focus on clean beauty and skin care, and the retailer is continuing to evolve its strategy to stay competitive, Vice President of Merchandising for Beauty Jody Pinson said. "Our customer is shifting toward natural products and a more natural lifestyle, so more than ever, she cares about what she puts on her face and on her body and ingredients," she said.

Fenty Beauty, the brand created by Rihanna, has developed a second foundation formula called Pro Filt'r Hydrating Longwear Foundation to offer a more moisturizing feel. The formula is made with grapeseed oil and hyaluronic acid to make it suitable for dry skin.

Green eye shadow, bobs and bolder use of eyeliner are among the hot beauty trends this summer. Also building buzz are opposing eye colors and painting a different polish color on each nail.

The Beautifully Disney makeup collection now includes a line of Frozen-themed products, including mini lipsticks, nail polish and eye shadows. The makeup is available for purchase exclusively at Disney parks.

Nail polish sales have grown faster than any other cosmetic category since the start of the recession, and some industry watchers say nail polish has replaced lipstick as women's go-to affordable indulgence in tight economic times. "It's rare to see a trend grow so strong in both mass and prestige channels," said NPD Group's beauty industry analyst Karen Grant.
