Taco Bueno owner and multibrand franchisee Sun Holdings has added McAlister's Deli to its lineup with the acquisition of 51 units in four states and plans to open 47 more locations. Sun operates about 1,000 restaurants under banners including Arby's, Burger King, Krispy Kreme and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

An affiliate of Sun Holdings has closed on its acquisition of Taco Bueno Restaurants, which has emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization with about 145 locations. Sun Holdings operates more than 800 franchised restaurants under banners including Arby's, Burger King and Krispy Kreme.

Burger King's acquisition of Tim Hortons might not cause much of a stir among franchisees, despite the merger's media attention. "For me, nothing's going to change," said Guillermo Perales, president and CEO of Sun Holdings, which operates 191 Burger King restaurants.

Dallas-based Sun Holdings will double to nearly 400 quickservice units this year, including virtually all the Burger Kings in the Orlando-Daytona market and every Arby's in Dallas. The company, run by Guillermo Perales, has also cornered the Popeyes' market in Dallas and acquired 90% of the CiCi's locations in Houston. "When you have the whole market you can do what you think is the right thing. It's only one price, one promotion, one message."
