Most of the space in the 90-year-old former Hotel John Marshall in Richmond, Va., is rented for apartments and businesses. But its poorly lit underground space -- once a restaurant -- stood empty for years until some clever entrepreneurs this summer turned it into the Hotel Greene mini-golf course that has hotel halls and suitcases rather than windmills, complete with a luxurious lobby and bar that many mistake for an actual hotel. "If Wes Anderson and Edward Gorey got together and designed a mini-golf course in the cavernous under-story of an old hotel, it might look something like this," Sandra Newman writes.
