The surge in demand for off-premises dining during the pandemic has spurred quickserve chains including Burger King, Del Taco and A&W to create formats that downsize or omit dining rooms and beef up drive-thrus. Drive-thrus were growing in popularity even before the coronavirus, and some chains including McDonald's and Chick-fil-A have been investing in high-tech features.
