Groceries will stock more plant-based and functional foods and beverages in 2021 to meet increased demand from health-conscious consumers, while the consumer packaged goods industry will continue to prioritize supply chain efficiency to avoid shortages, food industry analyst Phil Lempert said. Katie McBreen, the Consumer Brands Association's vice president of communications and strategy, agreed: "We've seen a definite movement toward [product] optimization as a result of [COVID-19] from food, beverage and snacks to cleaning products."
