West Virginia authorities still haven't told some dental professionals in the state when they will start receiving COVID-19 vaccines, Charleston's WCHS-TV reports. West Virginia Dental Board President Vince Veltri, D.D.S., said the National Guard, which is helping with administration, reached out quickly to dentists but may have been overwhelmed by high demand among dental professionals. Dentists should expect to receive a notification about their vaccination schedule by email, Dr. Veltri said.

West Virginia National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. James Hoyer and Gov. Jim Justice were among the first to receive their first doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine Monday as they and other officials were vaccinated during a live-streamed event. In all, 26 states have called upon their National Guards to help distribute the first shipments of vaccines.

A former mining site in West Virginia is being transformed into a military training facility. The project at the Hobet mining site in Boone County is a joint venture involving the West Virginia Army National Guard and the state's departments of commerce and transportation.

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has called on the state's National Guard to help curb a rash of homicides in the city of Huntington by increasing its counternarcotics support program resources. "The focus of what the governor wants the Guard to do is what we have done for a number of years, and we are pretty good at -- providing that technical support so the law enforcement officers can get out and spend their time doing the law enforcement work that they need to do," said the state's National Guard leader, Maj. Gen. James Hoyer.
