The University of Illinois will invest its recently awarded USDA grant to research a more effective method of finding potential pathogens in produce and leafy greens, which involves swabbing plants in the field with a sterile cloth to allow for a larger sample collection. "The goal of this USDA grant is to introduce transformative change into how preharvest testing works," says professor Matt Stasiewicz.
