Sikorsky President Paul Lemmo says the company is well-positioned in the US Army future attack reconnaissance aircraft and future long-range assault aircraft competitions. Currently, Sikorsky is focused on transitioning its CH-53K and Combat Rescue Helicopter into full-rate production.

The US Army is accelerating the initial stages of the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft program with contracts with a Sikorsky-Boeing team and Bell to speed up design reviews of conceptual weapons systems and major subsystems.

Boeing and Sikorsky have officially unveiled the new Defiant-X helicopter, the team's design for the US Army Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft program. Bell is proposing its V-280 tiltrotor aircraft for FLRAA.

A draft request for proposals for the Army's future long-range assault aircraft program is expected by year's end, with a contract award planned for 2022. A Sikorsky-Boeing team and Bell have developed prototypes for the Army ahead of the program of record.

A new report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies finds that the Army can afford to advance its Future Vertical Lift program and move forward with future armed reconnaissance aircraft and future long-range assault aircraft programs simultaneously. Bell, Sikorsky, Karem, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman team and AVX/L3Harris have submitted FARA designs, with a design expected from Boeing as well.
