"You could be looking at half the cost of a new roof easily," said Gerry Haan, owner of Haan roofing. "If you have to go two courses of ice barrier and then you have to add it in the valleys, which are the angles going up where two roofs might meet, at that point, you just will replace your roof and bring it up to code," he said.
