Hurricanes are likely to grow in intensity and affect areas where they previously posed little risk, and Canada needs to monitor the potential for storms' paths to bring them into the country more frequently, said Corinne Le Quere, a Royal Society research professor of climate change science at the University of East Anglia. Hurricanes' top wind speeds could increase by 5% if global temperatures rise by 2 degrees Celsius by 2100, according to an analysis of more than 90 peer-reviewed studies.
