The Labor Department has proposed a change to the tip credit that would set stricter rules for the amount of non-tipped work employees can do, and will hear public comments on the change until Aug. 23. Employers would not be able to claim the tip credit for an employee if that person's job included non-tip-producing tasks for more than 30 minutes straight or more than 20% of the total hours worked.
