DIRECTV Now introduces channels from overseas
AT&T's DIRECTV Now has rolled out channel packages from Vietnam and Brazil. For an additional $20 a month, subscribers can get nine Vietnamese channels; for an additional $25 a month, two Portuguese-language channels from Brazil are available.

Subscribers to Sling TV's orange and blue packages can try NBA League Pass for free until Oct. 23. NBA League Pass features all out-of-market games that users can add as part of their monthly subscription.

AT&T forges Magic Leap partnership
AT&T is offering insight into its partnership with Magic Leap, saying the DIRECTV Now streaming service will debut on the mixed-reality platform next year, enabling users to view several shows at once. The telecom will build a 5G network lab at Magic Leap, added AT&T Communications CEO John Donovan, who compared 5G's potential with mixed reality to the rise of the iPhone.

DISH to carry AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain
DISH Network has added AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, enabling customers in the Las Vegas area, parts of California, and Mohave County, Ariz., to watch the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights. The regional sports network also broadcasts Colorado Rockies and Utah Jazz games.

The National Football League reports that game streaming is up 65% compared with a year ago, suggesting that a younger, more digitally savvy audience may be tuning in. The league appears to be committed to digital viewership, even though television remains the most popular way to watch a game.

Seventy-three percent of over-the-top video viewers watch ad-supported content, with 43% of those reporting that they watch ad-supported video more than other streaming options, and viewers of ad-supported OTT services generally don't watch TV on traditional channels, a new Interactive Advertising Bureau report has found. "ASV OTT viewers are more receptive to advertising than either SVOD OTT or TV Only viewers" and "[m]any report they enjoy interacting with ads," the report states.

Report: Apple bets on original content
Apple reportedly is planning to create a digital video service that combines Apple-owned content with subscription services from other media companies. The TV application's Apple-owned content would be free to Apple device owners when it debuts early next year, sources say.

The SBCA Foundation Donates $10,000 to Flood Damaged Communities
The SBCA Foundation, in partnership with the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association, presented a grant for $5,000 to the Pollocksville, North Carolina Emergency Management Services department to help replace critical medical equipment which was damaged in the recent floods. The flooding from Hurricane Florence caused over $50,000 in damage to the Pollocksville EMS emergency vehicle and building. The department is a volunteer organization serving critical needs in the local community. "The SBCA Foundation is pleased to provide assistance to help the community replace essential medical equipment that will help save lives." states Steve Hill, president of SBCA. He continues, "The SBCA Foundation and its member companies have contributed over $50,000 to local communities which have been impacted by disaster. In addition,we help support the UITDRC which uses satellite technology to help first responders and relief workers in their efforts to help with the recovery effort."

Additionally, SBCA will donate $5,000 to the Jones County, North Carolina School System to reconstruct a computer lab which was destroyed by recent flooding.
