Credit-ratings firm Moody's is sounding the alarm about the financial status of US business schools after a report from the Graduate Management Admission Council noted a drop in enrollment. The report notes US immigration policies may be a factor in the decline.

A new rule planned by the Trump administration would set a fixed maximum time period that international students and scholars can stay in the US, in place of the "duration of status" designation now granted under student and certain other nonimmigrant visas. Jill Welch, the deputy executive director for public policy at NAFSA: Association of International Educators, says the proposed policy would undermine efforts by colleges and universities to attract international students and faculty.

Reduced H-1B visa duration spurs lawsuit
A lawsuit filed by trade group ITServe Alliance alleges that US Citizenship and Immigration Services lacks the authority to curtail the duration of H-1B visas. The group says federal law recommends a three-year duration, although a sponsoring employer can seek a shorter time frame.
