DOD employees may see furloughs cut by 5 days
Through a process of cost-cutting in other areas, the Pentagon may shrink the length of furloughs for Defense Department civilian workers from 11 days to as few as six, officials say. To reduce the unpaid time off by that many days, the Pentagon will have to come up with $900 million in savings elsewhere. FoxNews.com/The Associated Press (7/29)

Army's Odierno: Troop pay hike "a problem"
The 1.8% pay increase the House voted to give troops instead of the 1% recommended by the Pentagon will endanger training, weapons and other areas that need funding, warns Chief of the Staff of the Army Gen. Ray Odierno. "We're trying to work with Congress on this, but if we continue to have higher-level pay raises it's going to become really a problem for us," Odierno says.
