Forever 21 stresses individuality across 3 generations

Forever 21 is going back to its Los Angeles roots in its first brand campaign that's designed to appeal to three generations of fashion fans looking for relevant brands to serve their needs to dress according to their individual styles, CEO Winnie Park said. "Individuality is the zeitgeist of Los Angeles. It's a place where cinema, music, fashion and art come together in a melting pot. And it's diverse, not just in terms of ethnicity, but in terms of lifestyles," Park said.

Kroger announces Food Waste Challenge initiative

The Kroger Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation is partnering with the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research to create the Food Waste Challenge. The project backs an effort to measure food waste in households to better understand and address the issue.

The Biden administration has outlined plans designed to speed up domestic production of baby formula and boost imports from countries including Chile and Mexico to alleviate an ongoing nationwide shortage. The plans were announced after President Joe Biden met with representatives of retailers including Target and Walmart and baby food brands including Gerber.

Tapestry optimistic about China's reopening

Tapestry expects business in China to rebound after the country lifts pandemic lockdowns, a move the parent of luxury brands including Coach and Kate Spade predicts will begin next month. Strong demand in North America and some other markets fueled sales growth in the most recent quarter.

Consumers are still spending despite inflation, and many are looking to the government for solutions to rising prices, NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. Retail sales growth was evenly split between stores and digital channels in 2021, and Shay also addressed the shifting balance between in-person and online shopping.

US manufacturers like Dallas-based Finley Shirts produce about 3% of the clothing that's still made in America, down from 58% in 1991. Finley Shirts launched in 1995, and today longtime US contractors produce about 60,000 women's cotton shirts and linen dresses for Finley annually, which are sold at upscale retailers including Neiman Marcus.

Sweden-based buy now, pay later provider Klarna has created a virtual shopping platform that lets associates at brick-and-mortar stores video chat with customers while they're browsing online. About 300 brands and retailers including Hugo Boss and Levi's are using the platform, which also offers streaming services that stores can use to create content.

WOWorks, the Florida-based parent company of banners including Saladworks and Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh, has acquired burrito concept Barberitos and fast-casual soup chain Zoup! Eatery for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition creates a WOWorks portfolio of six restaurant brands, and the company expects to end the year with upwards of 400 units.
