Students at Oklahoma State University have developed a 3D printer capable of printing concrete from the ground up called BAM 3D in a nod to the Box-Auger method. The BAM 3D printer is designed to be used on most construction vehicles, using large aggregates and allowing mixes to be ordered from a local concrete company. The printer works around already-tied rebar, smoothing the concrete as it is being placed and creating a finished surface as it leaves the machine.
