Building code changes going into effect next month for new construction in Chicago will require new structures to align with the city's goals for decarbonization. The changes passed by Chicago City Council last month address factors such as energy-efficient lighting, roofs suitable for solar panels, provision for electric appliances and smart, grid-linked HVAC and water appliances.

An Illinois school district is planning to open a new career and technical education center to train students in automotive work, welding and woodworking. A groundbreaking ceremony recently was held for the center, which is expected to enroll 45 students.
