"These international rotations allow students to expand their cultural competency regarding medicine, and these skills are imperative no matter where a student decides to establish a practice following medical school," said John Mumey, the program's coordinator.

OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION
A $500,000 Health Resources and Services Administration grant will support the establishment of a family medicine residency program at Indiana Health Centers. The program will be developed and implemented by Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Inara Patton, a first-year medical student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine-Georgia, cared for victims three weeks after Turkey's devastating earthquake. Patton wanted to volunteer as soon as she heard about the earthquake, and says pictures cannot describe the devastation and overwhelming tragedy, yet still people smiled and "were thankful to see us."

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine has announced the appointment of Kevin Wilson, DO, as dean and chief academic officer. Dr. Wilson served as ICOM's interim dean and "has distinguished himself as a collaborative, empathetic and results-oriented leader," ICOM President Tracy J. Farnsworth, EdD, said.

Melissa Stephens, MD, associate dean of primary care and graduate medical education at the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine, received the Evelyn Gandy Women's Leadership Award at the 2023 Mississippi Pinnacle Awards. The award recognizes Stephens' dedication to caring for underserved and high-risk patient populations and commitment to population health initiatives.

The House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee has eight federal bills on its agenda related to primary care and the health care workforce. The Doctors of Community Act would make the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program permanent and increase its funding to $582 million by 2033.
