High Performance Battery, based in Germany, has developed a solid-state battery that features at least 12,500 charging cycles, a marked improvement over lithium-ion batteries with 1,250 charging cycles. "We are not only opening a new chapter in battery technology but are also making a decisive contribution to the energy transition and climate protection worldwide," said Sebastian Heinz, HPB's CEO.

Calif. train service transitions to renewable diesel

Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner train service, which runs 351 miles between San Diego, Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, has transitioned to renewable diesel made from cooking oil and similar raw materials. The shift is expected to reduce the line's greenhouse gas emissions by 63%.

Evolution Space, based in California, plans to build a facility to test solid rocket motors and solid propulsion at NASA's Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Evolution, which recently raised $1.2 million in Series A funding, plans to begin production of solid rocket motors by mid-2024.

CATL, based in China, has a 36.9% global market share for electric vehicle batteries, per a report from SNE Research. The report also found that China's BYD is in second with nearly 15.9% market share, with LG of South Korea (14.2%), Panasonic in Japan (7.1%) and SK On of South Korea (5.1%) rounding out the top five.

Electric Dodge Charger could be showcased at SEMA

Stellantis' Mopar brand hinted at an electric concept car -- that appears to have the look of a second-generation Dodge Charger -- ready to unveil at the 2023 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas. The blue tint in the photo echoes the blue that Jeep brand uses on its electric SUVs.

Research by GreenBiz indicates the pace of switching fleets to electric power has reached a record high speed in 2023, boosted by infrastructure improvements, falling costs and favorable regulatory changes. Commercial entities such as Amazon and municipal bodies such as the state of California and City of New York are giving their full support to the switch with innovations and procedural changes, GreenBiz notes.
