High Performance Battery, based in Germany, has developed a solid-state battery that features at least 12,500 charging cycles, a marked improvement over lithium-ion batteries with 1,250 charging cycles. Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner train service, which runs 351 miles between San Diego, Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo, has transitioned to renewable diesel made from cooking oil and similar raw materials. The shift is expected to reduce the line's greenhouse gas emissions by 63%.
Evolution Space, based in California, plans to build a facility to test solid rocket motors and solid propulsion at NASA's Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. Evolution, which recently raised $1.2 million in Series A funding, plans to begin production of solid rocket motors by mid-2024.
