Three medical students at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine are studying how to address rural health care needs through the first research internships with the Maine Rural Graduate Medical Education Collaborative. Hanna Wollocko, M.D., an adjunct clinical associate professor of internal medicine at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine who researches alternatives to blood transfusions, says the students she works with are enthusiastic about innovation, and many want to be involved in research as well as patient care. "As a researcher, as a doctor, as a teacher, I could not ask for more," Dr. Wollocko says.
Osteopathic medical schools are among those that use the Multiple Mini Interview format for admissions, asking prospective medical students to respond to a series of role-playing scenarios, dilemmas and challenges.
Training at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine provided helped a clinic add treatment based on the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association protocol for patients with opioid use disorder. The treatment has helped increase program attendance, said Jenna Hinkle, MPS, director of education for WVSOM's Center for Rural and Community Health.

AACOM's Academic Recognition Program has officially launched its Health Disparities and Health Equity modules for the 2023-24 school year.
