OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION
West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine faculty members and alumni share the challenges women have faced in pursuing careers as physicians. They discuss the trailblazing women who paved the way for today's students. "Although there is still progress to be made for women, especially women of color, their efforts are much of the reason I can attend medical school today," medical student Alexis Mbakwe said.

Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, was the keynote speaker at a maternal health forum at the University at Buffalo's Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences organized by the family of Pearl Young, a UB gerontology studies graduate and longtime advocate for maternal health who was a victim of last year's racist shooting at a Buffalo supermarket. "She was one of those people that I am really proud of her family for saying, 'Hey, her efforts will not be forgotten,'" Dr. Ross-Lee said.

In accepting the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine's John A. Strosnider, DO, Memorial Lecturer award for 2023, Rakesh Sachdeva, MD, recalled fond memories of Dr. Strosnider, founding dean of KYCOM. Dr. Sachdeva remembers "when Stro walked in and said, 'We want you to teach our medical students.' Without hesitation, I said 'Dr. Strosnider, I would love to do that.'"

The Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Educators (AOGME) is accepting applications for both the 2024 AOGME Awards and the prestigious Collegium of Fellows. The Collegium of Fellows is an honor recognizing long and meritorious service to the AOGME and the osteopathic profession. Applications are due by December 1, 2023.
