In-person research symposium returns at Western U/COMP-Northwest | OSU-COM students find inequities in ophthalmology care, studies | OU-HCOM adds Shawnee State to early admission program
The annual Student Research Symposium conducted by the Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific-Northwest included in-person project presentations for the first time in three years. "I'm not trying to make all of the students full-time researchers. But it's important that they do research," faculty investigator Anu Raisanen, Ph.D., said.

A literature review in JAMA Ophthalmology by medical students at the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine found that lower-income patients were more likely to have vision impairment, lower adherence to eye exams and lesser use of eye care services. Researchers also noted a dearth of studies that included LGBTQ+ patients and those with American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander backgrounds.
Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine has added Shawnee State University to an initiative to help high-school students enrolling in Shawnee's pre-med track earn a medical school slot. OU-HCOM's Early Assurance Program includes six universities.
Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine medical student Brianna Hector has been selected to participate in the NIH All of Us Research Program. Students are charged with designing research projects using data from a diverse cohort of 1 million or more US participants to better understand human health.
Apply for AACOM's highly competitive Research Grant Program and receive up to $10,000 in funding!
