OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL EDUCATION
The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Elmira Campus has joined forces with Elmira College to establish a six-year Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. Drawing students from rural areas, program officials hope graduates of the program will serve communities in the area.

Today A.T. Still University's Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri will hold its annual Gift of Body Ceremony to honor those who have donated their body to science. ATSU anatomy lab technician Casandra Luscan says the donations give "the future physicians real-life interaction with the body itself, with anatomy as a whole."

The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine has introduced a new master's degree program in clinical anatomy aimed at preparing students for careers in research and medical education. With the projected physician shortage, medical educators will be much in demand and this program will help "ensure that our country will have the health infrastructure needed to support future generations," according to Frank Daly, PhD, of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Salma Holden, MD, an associate professor at the University of New England College for Osteopathic Medicine, told Portland, Maine, city officials that the criminalization of psychedelic drugs raises barriers to medical treatment. "While the evidence and effectiveness of these therapies increases, accessibility remains limited, and people are seeking this modality already through underground resources," Dr. Holden said.
