Several schools of osteopathic medicine are partners in BS/DO degree programs with deadlines that are open through January and February, and some programs have rolling deadlines.
Marian University in Indianapolis is hoping to lessen barriers to medical education, address the nation's physician shortage and encourage careers in rural medicine by offering a premedical undergraduate degree and scholarship program that includes direct admission to the university's college of osteopathic medicine.
A $400,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Medicaid and Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center's Medicaid Technical Assistance and Policy Program will help the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and other medical schools create a Regional Quality Improvement Hub aimed at better health outcomes for Medicaid beneficiaries in the state's southeast region. The center will share research findings and best practices with clinicians.
Associate Professor Kerry Tucker, Ph.D., of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine has received a two-year, $400,000 NIH grant to study the origination of pain at the cellular level. The study will examine the role of the primary cilia of neurons in processing pain-inducing signals.
West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine faculty members Deborah Schmidt, D.O., and Mark Waddell, D.O., have been named the Distinguished Alumni of the Year for 2021 and 2022, respectively, by the school's alumni association in a ceremony that included last year's postponed recognition.
The Osteopathic Heritage Foundations approved funding in the amount of $420,451 for AACOM. "The knowledge gained through this study will be crucial to helping the osteopathic medical education community strengthen the integration of osteopathic principles and practice into residency and fellowship programs," says AACOM President and CEO Robert A. Applications are now open for the 2023-2024 Osteopathic Health Policy Internship Program, a unique eight-week virtual internship for osteopathic medical students. Interns will actively participate in building support for AACOM's policy priorities, including the Fair Access in Residency Act (H.R. 8850), increasing National Institutes of Health funding for osteopathic researchers and more. Applications are due Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
