A main energy calculation is included in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers' first standard to determine whether a building can operationally be considered net-zero for carbon emissions. Calculations to account for energy used or lost in extract form part of the standard, as well as generation and transit from an energy source to the building, with allowances made for sites where enough renewable energy cannot be generated.

OSHA will start issuing certifications to support "U" and "T" nonimmigrant status visa applications to reduce harassment and discrimination issues surrounding hiring, promotions and workplace culture, with a focus on the construction industry. OSHA plans to also hold a hearing May 10 to solicit public comments on how to improve outreach and training programs to support whistleblower laws.

The Colorado Legislature has advanced a bill that will streamline the permitting process for solar and contains nearly $1 million to spur the adoption of SolarAPP+ and similar solutions. SolarAPP+ is in use across 32 communities in the US and has processed more than 15,000 permits for residential solar projects.
