Ill. education board to ask state for funding increase

The Illinois State Board of Education has voted to ask state lawmakers for over $7.9 billion in extra funding for the next fiscal year, nearly doubling current spending to more than $15.6 billion. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford Jr. is concerned that another continuing resolution to keep the government running in lieu of a budget deal could cause problems for the country's military. "Sometimes when you're forced to spend all the money in a compressed period of time at the end of the fiscal year, it isn't necessarily as efficient a use of the resources as you'd want it to be," he said.
