The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and Netnografica alleged that Philip Morris International, Japan Tobacco International, British American Tobacco and Imperial Brands paid and trained social media influencers to market cigarettes to young people in dozens of countries. The Federal Trade Commission has been asked by the CTFK, along with the American Academy of Pediatrics and eight other health organizations, to order the tobacco companies to include the hashtags "#Ad," #Promotion" or "#Sponsored" in paid social media campaigns.
