Hospital CEO: Make the choice to get a COVID-19 vaccine

Since July 12, the number of COVID-19 patients at St. Luke's 12 hospitals has risen from three to 91, and 94% of those new patients have not been vaccinated, writes St. Luke's University Health Network President and CEO Richard Anderson. It is only through vaccination that life can return to normal, Anderson writes, but more than 90% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients have chosen not to seek vaccination despite the vaccines' proven safety and efficacy, and Anderson urges anyone who has made that choice to reconsider "for your own sake and that of others."

HIMSS Analytics awarded Stage 7 on the EMR Adoption Model to St. Luke's University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pa., for implementing EMR initiatives that led to better patient care and lower costs. The new designation is applicable to all hospitals in the St. Luke's network, including the Warren Campus in Phillipsburg, N.J., making it the first hospital in that state to achieve Stage 7.

Pa. hospital's organic farm adds fresh produce to menu

St. Luke's University Health Network in Easton, Pa., planted an organic farm on its campus to provide fresh produce for its cafeteria and patient meals. The farm is on track to exceed its 44,000-pound quota for the season. Sodexo has had to change its buying practices to accommodate the locally grown produce and the hospital is working with the food service vendor to change menus.
